    SUMMARY:
Alignment of standards, assessments, and professional development is necessary for student success. And now with states’ adoption and implementation of new, higher standards — including the college and career readiness standards and the new ELP standards — and computer-based assessments, there are clearly some new twists. This session addresses the necessary changes to “business as usual” that are being addressed and/or are under consideration by the ELPA21 consortium. As an attendee you’ll hear about both the underlying theory of English proficiency and its relationship to new English proficiency standards, instruction and assessment. Presenters include ELPA21’s experts in English language learning, item development, and assessment design -- and a state representative implementing the new ELP standards, professional development programs, and the ELPA21 assessment system. ELPA21 will be heading into its first operational assessment year in 2015-16.
