SUMMARY:
This session will explore the role of the State Education Agency (SEA) in the formative assessment process from multiple points of view; former state education policy makers, education expert, NEAP ambassador, and teacher and how the use of the formative assessment process can improve student performance and drive systemic instructional reform. The implementation of successful formative assessment practices embrace the fact that teachers need evidence on student performance immediately, rather than waiting to the end of the year to make necessary adjustments in teaching and learning, and this evidence must be transformed into immediate feedback in order to make a difference in student achievement. Participants will have the opportunity to learn more about formative assessment from a variety of perspectives and experiences and actively engage in a national conversation about how to leverage both state and local formative assessment initiatives that will help empower educators as facilitators of student learning.
