    SUMMARY:
Early childhood assessment in the United States is on the brink of great change. In this symposium, we present the development and validation of Ready for Kindergarten: Maryland and Ohio’s Early Childhood Comprehensive Assessment System (EC-CAS), an assessment system created with Race to the Top Early Learning Challenge Grant funding. Fully operational in Fall 2014, the EC-CAS includes a kindergarten readiness assessment (KRA) and preschool and kindergarten formative assessments for children ages 36 to 72 months. This symposium will examine the lessons learned from both these states’ perspectives as well as key findings from the development team.
